AWARDS APRIL 2012
- Bollywood actor Mithun Chakravarti received the PC Chandra lifetime achievement award in Kolkata on 29 April 2102. West Bengal Governor MK Narayan conferred the award upon the actor.
- Noted Tamil writer Ashokamitran, was declared as the recipient of the 6th NTR National Literary Award. The award is scheduled to be presented on 28 May 2012. The writer was born in Secunderabad and was closest to Telugu culture, language and people. Thanneer was his most popular novel. Chairperson of NTR Vignan Trust Nandamuri Lakshmi Parvati made the announcement. The previous award winners are Kannada writer S.L. Bhyrappa, A. Somasundar(Telugu), Sachidanandan (Malayalam), Mahasweta Devi and Gnanpith awardee C. Narayana Reddy.s
- Chairperson of National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Shanta Sinha is to be honoured with the Yudhvir Memorial Foundation Award 2012.The award, instituted in the memory of freedom fighter, journalist and founder of the daily Hindi Milap , Yudhvir, will be given away on April 30, his birth anniversary. Shanta Sinha is being given the award for her pioneering and innovative role in protecting/promoting child rights.
- The 2012 Pulitzer Prize was announced on 16 April 2012. The Associated Press won a Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting for documenting the New York Police Department's spying on Muslims. A second Pulitzer for investigative reporting was given to The Seattle Times for a series about accidental methadone overdoses among patients with chronic pain. The New York Times won two Pulitzers, for explanatory and international reporting. The Pulitzers are given out annually by Columbia University on the recommendation of a board of journalists and others.
