AWARDS JUNE 2009
- Azim Premji was awarded the US-India Business Council's (USIBC) 34th anniversary Global Vision Award in Washington for his work on furthering Indo-US relations through commercial partnership.
- Mr. Nagaratnam Naidu was presented with the Jagjivan Ram Kisan Puraskar, an award constituted by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (IACR)
- Sulabh International, an Indian organisation popular for introducing low-cost toilet technology, has been selected for this year|s prestigious Renewable Energy award. The Intergovernmental Renewable Energy Organisation (IREO) will present the award to Sulabh founder, Dr.Bindeshwar Pathak, at the United Nations headquarters.
- Christopher Lee (horror actor of Dracula) was honored with Knighthood award.
- IIFA awards :Bollywood director Ashutosh Gowarikar|s historical love epic Jodhaa Akbar swept the 10th International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) awards here, taking home trophies for best picture, best director and best actor for heartthrob Hrithik RoshanBest director – GowarikarBest actor – Hrithik RoshanBest actress – Priyanka ChopraBest music director– A R RahmanBest supporting role, actor – Arjun RampalBest actor in comic role – Abhishek BachchanThe other winners in the key categories were Kangana Ranaut, who won best supporting role for her performance as a troubled supermodel in Fashion, Akshaye Khanna won the best negative role for Race, Neeraj Pandey scooped the tropy for best story for his film on terrorism A Wednesday. He also won the technical award of best scriptwriter for the same film.
