  • Ajay Shriram---- Industry body CII has elected Chairman and senior Managing Director of DCM Shriram Limited Ajay Shriram as its President. Shriram obtained a Bachelors degree in Commerce from Sydenham College, Mumbai. He is the Chairman of the governing body of Shri Ram College of Commerce and a Trustee of SOS Children Villages of India. DCM Shriram group has a turnover of around Rs 5,700 crore. The Group is into agricultural, chloro vinyl and value added businesses. Naushad Forbes has been elected as the CII Vice President for the year 2014-15. Forbes is the Director of Forbes Marshall, India's leading steam engineering and control instrumentation firm.
  • K. C. Chakrabarty---- Deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), has resigned on 20 March, three months ahead of the completion of his term.
  • Aditi Khanna-----The Indian Journalists' Association (IJA) in London on 19 March, elected a woman president and general secretary for the first time in its 67-year history. Aditi Khanna, London correspondent for Press Trust of India becomes IJA president, and Rupanjana Dutta, Associate Editor of Asian Business Publications Ltd., its general secretary. The IJA was set up in May 1947, with the active encouragement from V.K. Krishna Menon, who subsequently became the first High Commissioner of independent India in Britain. He allowed the IJA, to use the India League office, located conveniently near Fleet Street and the Indian High Commission. He also located the India Club, which he founded, in the same premises.
  • G.K.Pillai----Within 24 hours of the Central Bureau of Investigation beginning a multi-pronged probe, GK Pillai, Chairman of MCX-SX, an exchange founded by Jignesh Shah's FT group, resigned on 14 March, citing "personal reasons." Former LIC chairman and MCX-SX vice chairman Thomas Mathew was appointed chairman in place of Pilla. CBI, which has filed an FIR in connection with the Rs 5,500-crore scam at the FT subsidiary NSEL, is also inquiring into alleged irregularities in Sebi giving a licence to MCX-SX in 2008 and renewing it over the next two years.
  • Nandan Nilekani----- Nandan Nilekani resigned as chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on 13 March 2014. Nilekani joined the Congress Party on 10 March 2014 and he is contesting from the Bangalore South constituency in Lok Sabha polls. Nandan Nilekani, Co-founder of Infosys left the company in 2007 and he had taken charges as head of UIDAI, Aadhar programme.
    About Aadhar:
    Aadhar is a 12 digit individual identification number issued by the UIDAI on behalf of the Government of India under Aadhar Programme. Aadhar number will serve as a proof of identity and address, anywhere in India. Aadhar programme comes under the Planning Commission headed by the Prime Minister.
  • Soma Mondal---- Soma Mondal on 12 March 2014 was appointed as the first woman director (commercial) of Navratna Public Sector Unit (PSU) National Aluminium Company Ltd (NALCO). Mondal joined Nalco in 1984 as a Graduate Engineer Trainee.
    About NALCO:
    NALCO was incorporated in 1981 in the public sector to exploit a part of the large deposits of bauxite discovered in the East Coast. NALCO is Asia's largest integrated aluminium complex, encompassing bauxite mining, alumina refining, aluminium smelting and casting, power generation, rail and port operations.
  • Tony Benn (88) ---- The totem of the British Left who spearheaded the movement against the Iraq war, died on 14 March. A Labour Cabinet Minister in the 1960s and 1970s, Benn was a widely respected orator who clashed with his party’s leadership over its drift away from the radical socialism he espoused. Benn also forced a change in the law allowing hereditary members of Parliament’s upper House of Lords to renounce their titles, after he was disqualified from his seat in the elected lower House of Commons upon inheriting his father’s Viscount Stansgate title in 1960.Prime Minister David Cameron said Benn was a magnificent writer, speaker and campaigner, with a strong record of public and political service.
  • Krishna Chaudhary, IPS--- Krishna Chaudhary, IPS presently working as DG, Fire Services, Civil Defence & Home Guards has been appointed to the post of Director General, Railway Protection Force, Railway Board, with effect from the date of his joining of the post and till the date of his superannuation i.e. up to 30.06.2017 or until further orders, whichever event takes place earlier.
  • J. S. Sarma(65)----Former Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) Chairman J. S. Sarma, an advocate of telecom sector reforms, has passed away on 28th February in Hyderabad, after an illness. Sarma, who presided over as Chairman, TRAI, hold the post from May 14, 2009, to May 13, 2012. During Sarma’s regime, mobile number portability was introduced.
