- The Geo-Synchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV-F06) launched from Sriharikota ended in a failure after 47 seconds after its flight. GSLV-F006 was carrying communication satellite GSAT-5P. Since 2001, out of seven GSLV satellites four satellites failed including the latest one. The previous satellite launched in April 2010 also failed.
- India's first indigenously-developed balloon mounted radar was successfully launched from military compound in Agra. The helium-filled aerostat radar can also work in night and has a range of 100 kms.
- Two nuclear weapons-capable Prithvi-II missiles were tested successfully from Integrated Test Range, Chandipur, Orissa.
- The last of India's Foxtrot-class submarines, INS Vagli retired after 36 years of service. The retirement of INS Vagli will leave only 14 more submarines for India now.
- India's indigenous Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) successfully test fired R-73 missile. The test firing took place at INS Hansa naval air base in Goa.
