  • Katy Perry honoured with the Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award
    Singer Katy Perry was honoured with the 'Audrey Hepburn Humanitarian Award' for her work as UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador at a UNICEF event in New York on 1st December. Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, known professionally as Katy Perry, is an American singer and songwriter.
  • India's football federation wins Asian award
    The All-India Football Federation won the Asian Football Council's Developing Member Association of the Year Award in Abu Dhabi. The award is given on the basis of organisation of courses, seminars and competitions, grassroots youth development and women's programmes and special projects. In 2014, AIFF had earlier won the AFC President's Recognition Award for grassroots football.
  • Amitabh Bachan and Alia Bhatt Won Star Screen Awards
    Current AffairsCourtroom drama "Pink" swept the Star Screen Awards here with megastar Amitabh Bachchan bagging the best actor award for the film while actress Alia Bhatt picked up the best actress for her performance in controversy-ridden drug-themed crime thriller Udta Punjab.

    Produced by Shoojit Sircar and directed by Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury, "Pink" won four awards including editing and dialogues and was adjudged the best film.

    Ram Madhvani got the best director Award for "Neerja". The Sonam Kapoor-starrer also got the best story screenplay award for Saiwyn Quadras. Best cinematography award was given to Anay Goswamy for "Fitoor".

    Rishi Kapoor was honoured as the best supporting actor for "Kapoor And Sons" while Shabana Azmi bagged the Best Supporting actress award for "Neerja". Varun Dhawan got best actor in a comic role award for "Dishoom".

    In the music category Karan Johar's directorial venture "Ae Dil Hai Mushkil" won the maximum awards including the best lyricist award to Amitabh Bhattacharya, best music award for Pritam and Best Playback Singer (male) to Amit Mishra for his rendition of hit song "Bulleya".

    The best playback singer (Female) was won by Palak Muchhal for "Kaun Tujhe" from "MS Dhoni The Untold Story". The most promising director award was given to Tinu Suresh Desai for Akshay Kumar-starrer "Rustom".

    Sidharth Malhotra and Katrina Kaif starrer hit song "Kala Chashma" from the film "Baar Baar Dekho" got the best choreography for Bosco Caesar. The best child artiste award was given to Riya Shukla for "Nil Battey Sannata".
  • Yu Long Yu received ICCR distinguished Ideologist Award
    President Pranab Mukherjee on 1st December presented the second ICCR distinguished ideologist award to Prof. Yu Long Yu of China at a function in Rashtrapati Bhavan.

    On the occasion, the President said, the contribution of foreign scholars to the development of Indology has been critical and their efforts have led to the worldwide awareness of India’s rich cultural and civilizational past. Prof. Yu Long Yu, Professor and Director at the Centre for Indian Studies, Shenzhen University, has studied Indology for half a century and is the pioneer for Indology in South China. He has set up the Centre for Indian Studies and Tan Yunshan Sino-Indian Friendship Museum in Shenzhen University.
  • Vajiralongkorn ascends Thailand Kingship
    Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn was proclaimed king of Thailand on 1st December, opening a new chapter for the powerful monarchy in a country still mourning the death of his father.

    Vajiralongkorn, 64, who inherits one of the world's richest monarchies as well as a politically troubled nation, ascends the throne 50 days after King Bhumibol Adulyadej's death.
  • Kehkashan Basu Wins International Children’s Piece Prize
    Current Affairs Dubai based Indian girl Kehkashan Basu wins International Children’s Piece Prize was presented the award by Bangladesh's Nobel peace laureate Mohammad Yunus at a ceremony in The Hague.

    Yunus, who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his efforts for economic and social development, underlined the urgency and importance of Kehkashan's work, as more than three million children under the age of five die every year from environment-related diseases and many more suffer deeply from environmental issues.
