- Malayalam film "Ottal" named best children's film at Berlin International Film Festival
Malayalam film "Ottal" has been named the best children's film at the Berlin International Film Festival and honoured with the Crystal Bear award in the 'Generation K-Plus' section. The film, directed by Jayaraj Rajasekharan Nair, is about the story of an old fisherman and his grandson. The movie is an adaptation of Anton Chekhov's short story 'Vanaka'.
Jayaraj is known for adapting literary classic into films. He has earlier made films based on Shakespeare's works such as "Othello" and "Antony and Cleopatra". This is the third year in a row that Indian films have triumphed. Earlier winners were "Killa" 2014 and "Dhanak" 2015.
"Ottal" bagged the National Award for best film on Environment Conservation/Preservation and it set a record at 20th International Film Festival Of Kerala by sweeping all the top awards. - Asif Kapadia:Indo-British filmmaker Asif Kapadia, has scooped a Grammy Award for Best Music Film for his poignant documentary "Amy" on late British singer Amy Winehouse. The 2015 film, which touched on the life and rise of the hugely talented singer who passed away four years ago, beat out competition from esteemed winners to win the prestigious prize.
Kapadia's Grammy win comes close to the heels of his triumph at the Bafta awards recently. Amy is also nominated for an Oscar in the Best Documentary Feature category.
Meanwhile, Sitarist Anoushka Shankar once again lost in the World Music category at the 58th Grammy awards. Anoushka, 34, was nominated in the Best World Music Album category for her solo album 'Home', a pure Indian classical album. - Award for “The Revenant”
Epic survival tale The Revenant has won the best film prize at Britain's Bafta awards. The film also took top honours in a number of categories with Leonardo DiCaprio winning best actor and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu bagging best director. The recognition for the movie is seen as a key predictor of success at the upcoming Oscars.
The role of a fur trapper fighting for his life has earned DiCaprio his sixth Oscar nomination and, many believe, his best shot at finally winning.

Centre has announced that Prime Minister's Shram Awards for 2014 to be awarded to 54 workers in recognition of their distinguished performance and innovation. A Labour Ministry release said in New Delhi that these awardees made outstanding contribution to productivity and exhibited exceptional courage and presence of mind on duty.
According to the statement, there are nine nominations for the Shram Bhushan Award, 19 for Shram Vir/Shram Veerangana and 26 for Shram Shree/Shram Devi Awards. Of the total of 54 awardees, 36 are from the public sector and 18 from the private stream.
