- Australia had won the ODI series against India at 4-2. Watson was named Man-of-the-Series.
- Viswanath Anand has won Rapid Chess Championship by defeating Karpov.
- Sachin Tendulkar scored 17, 000 runs in 435 ODIs. He is the highest scorer in ODIs. Sanat Jayasurya and Rickey Ponting are 2nd and 3rd highest scorers.
- Italy has won Federation cup tennis title.
- Sowmya Swaminathan has won the World Junior Girls Chess Championship held in Argentina. She is the third to win the title after Hampi and Harika.
- China has won Asia Women Hockey cup by defeating India in the final.
- Serena Williams has won WTA women’s championship after defeating her sister Venus in the final.

International Team of the year – Australia. - Davydenko defeated Juan Martin del Potro in the finals at London, to become the first Russian to win ATP World Tour title in the tournament history. Doubles’ title was won by Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan.
- India has won its 100th testmatch in cricket on November 27th when it has won the test match against Sri Lanka in Kanpur. The other countries which have won 100 test matches are Australia, England, West Indies, South Africa and Pakistan.
- Roger Federer was titled number one player of the 2009 by defeating Andy Murray in ATP World Tour Finals in London.
- Ng-On Yee is the youngest snooker world champion. The 19-year-old Hong Kong girl produced a classy performance to beat the 49-year-old Australian in the final of the ONGC-IBSF World snooker championship at Hyderabad. The men’s title was won by England’s Alfred Burden.
- World Under-16 Chess title was won by P Seturaman that was played at Atlanta.
- Athlete of the year 2009 awards was given to Usain Bolt and Sanya Richards by International Association of Athletics Federation.
- Sachin has become the first cricketer to score 30, 000 runs in international cricket. Ricky Ponting is in the second place with 25, 000 runs.
- China has won Asian Table Tennis Championship by defeating Japan in Men’s title and Singapore in Women’s title which was held in Lucknow. India was ranked 7th in the championship.
- Tigerwoods has won the Australian Masters Golf Title that was played at Melbourne.
- Mohinder Amarnath was conferred with C K Naidu memorial lifetime achievement award.
