  • Bajrangi Bhaijaan',‘Bajirao Mastani' bag top honors at IIFA
    Current Affairs The Bollywood titans of 2015-- "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" and "Bajirao Mastani"-- emerged victorious at the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards 2016 in Spain with the Salman Khan-starrer winning best picture while Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus taking home best director gong. Bajrangi Bhaijaan Director Kabir Khan.

    Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali was honoured with the award by his lead actors-- Ranveer Singh, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra. The historical romantic saga earned Ranveer the best actor trophy for his portrayal of the great Maratha warrior Peshwa Bajirao.

    Deepika who was nominated for two films in the best actress category won the honor for Shoojit Sarkar's "Piku”.
  • Award for four Indian-Americans
    Google CEO Sunder Pichai, Hari Sreenivasan with PBS NewsHour, Vikram Malhotra with McKinsey and Bharati Mukherjee Award-winning author are four Indian-Americans among 42 US nationals to be honoured with this year's prestigious "Great Immigrants: The Pride of America" award.

    42 honourees represent 30 different countries of origin, a wide range of personal immigration stories, and inspiring professional accomplishments.
  • Sanjay Mittal: The twenty-fifth G. D. Birla Award for Scientific Research for 2015 has been awarded to Prof. Sanjay Mittal from the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur.

    Prof. Mittal’s significant contributions have been in the area of Bluff Body Flows — flows past blunt bodies associated with large unsteady separation and leading to large fluid forces. He was instrumental in establishing the High Performance Computing (HPC) facility at IIT Kanpur and heads the National Wind Tunnel Facility.
  • Current AffairsShashi Kant Sharma:Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) Shashi Kant Sharma has been conferred honorary professorship by the Nanjing Audit University in China on 25th June. CAG office in a release said, it is the only university which is recognised by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
  • Ban Ki-moon: Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree awarding the Order of Friendship to United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

    Current Affairs The decoration was awarded to Ban for special merits in strengthening peace, friendship, cooperation and mutual understanding between peoples, the officially published decree said. Among those awarded are Prince Michael of Kent, Oscar Niemeyer, the architect of the Brazilian capital, and former President of the International Olympic Committee, Jacques Rogge.

    The order, set up in 1994, is meant to reward Russian citizens and foreign nationals for outstanding accomplishments in strengthening peace and cooperation with Russia, as well as for charity activities.
