- Victoria Azaranka beat Serena Williams to win Miami Masters Tennis title.
- Sehwag was announced as Wisden 2008 ‘Leading Cricketer in the World’.
- Wisden Dream Team: M S Dhoni was selected as captain. Sehwag, Harbajan Singh, Sachin and Zaheer Khan were selected in the dream team.
- India has won a test series in New Zealand after 41 years.
- Shooting World Cup in Changwon, Korea: Gagan Narang won the bronze medal in the men’s 10m air rifle event of the first ISSF World Cup of the year in Chongwon, Korea. He also won the gold in the men’s 50-metre free rifle 3-position event.
- Rahul Dravid created world record in the number of catches (183).
- India has won Sultan Azlan Shah Hockey Tournament 2009 after 13 years by beating Malaysia in the final.
- Rafael Nadal won his fifth consecutive Barcelona Open title victory over Spanish compatriot David Ferrer.
