• Roger Federer won a record 8th Wimbledon title beating Marin Cilic in Men's singles
   Roger Federer won a record eighth Wimbledon title and became the tournament's oldest champion on 16th July with a straight-sets victory over Marin Cilic. Federer claimed his 19th Grand Slam title beating Cilic 6-3, 6-1, 6-4. The 36-year old Federer is also Wimbledon's oldest men's winner of the modern era, succeeding Arthur Ashe, who was almost 32 when he won in 1976.
  
  This was Swiss superstar's 11th Wimbledon final and 29th title at the majors.With this victory, Federer also became the first player since Bjorn Borg in 1976 to win Wimbledon without dropping a set in the entire tournament.
  
• I H Manudev wins National Masters snooker tournament
  I H Manudev has won the first National Masters snooker tournament title in Chennai. In final he defeated former National Men’s Champion Alok Kumar.
  
• Sandeep Kumar wins gold in men's 20 km race walk
  Sandeep Kumar of Haryana won the gold medal in the men's 20 kilometer race walk on Day 2 of the National Inter State Championships athletics meet in Guntur. Sandeep clocked a timing of one hour 27 minute and 1.52 seconds to pocket the yellow metal.
  
  In the event, Odiya sprinter Amiya Kumar Mallick won the men's 200 meter run in 21.65 seconds. The women's 200 meter race was also clinched by Odisha athlete Srabani Nanda finished with a timing of 24.18 seconds.
  
• Asian champion shot-putter Manpreet fails dope test
  Asian champion shot-putter Manpreet Kaur has been caught in the dope net after testing positive for a banned stimulant. She has been tested positive for stimulant dimethylbutylamine.
  
  The test was conducted by National Anti-Doping Officials during the Federation Cup National Championships held in Patiala from 1st to 4th June.
  
  She has not been put under provisional suspension as dimethylbutylamine is a specified substance under the WADA Code but India will lose the gold medal she won in Bhubaneswar if her confirmatory urine sample 'B' test also returns positive.
  
  Manpreet has already qualified for next month's World Championships to be held in London. Since, Dimethylbutylamin comes under the unspecified category of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), Kaur is eligible to take part in the world meet.
  
  Manpreet had set a national record in the first leg of the Asian Grand Prix meet in Jinhua (China) with a throw of 18.86m which fetched her a gold as well as a World Championships berth.
  
  Later, she won a gold each in the Federation Cup, Asian Championships and the National Inter-State Championships which concluded at Guntur on 18th July.
  
• Gokulnath becomes first Indian to finish toughest cycle race RAAM
   Lt Col Srinivas Gokulnath on 9th July said power of the mountains helped him become the first Indian to finish the toughest cycle race, Race Across America (RAAM). Gokulnath became the first Indian to complete the 4,900 kilometre RAAM in solo category.
  
• India tops medal tally in Asian Athletics Championships
  India has topped the medal tally for first time in the history of Asian Athletics Championships. In a stunning show of dominance on the fourth and final day of competitions in Bhubaneshwar, India clinched five gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze. With that, the hosts ended the championships on top with a haul of 29 medals which included 12 gold, 5 silver and 12 bronze.
  
  India's earlier best came way back in the 1985 Jakarta edition where they had won 22 medals which included 10 gold, 5 silver, seven bronze. With their most successful campaign in the continental flagship event, India pushed China to second spot.
  
  China ended this edition with a tally of 8 gold, 7 silver, 5 bronze. Kazakhstan finished third with 4 gold, 2 silver, 2 bronze while Iran ended on fourth with 4 gold and 1 bronze.
  
  Heptathlete Swapna Barman gave India the first gold of the day as she collected a total of 5942 points from the seven events. Japan's Meg Hemphill was second, while another Indian Purnima Hembram was third in the event.
  
  Lakhsmanan Govindan grabbed his second gold of the championships by winning the men's 10,000 metre event in 29 minute and 55.87 seconds. His Indian compatriot Gopi Thonkanal won the silver winner. Lakhsmanan had already won a gold in the 5000 metre race on the opening day.
  
  World junior record holder javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra clinched the gold with a final throw of 85.23 metres. Devinder Singh Kang came third in the event.
  
  India fittingly wrapped up the championships by winning gold in the men's and women's 4x400 metre relay races to send the packed crowd to wild celebrations. In men's 800 metre race, India won a bronze through Jinson Johnson.
  
• BCCI names Ravi Shastri as new coach
  The BCCI named Ravi Shastri as the new chief coach of the Indian cricket team till ICC World Cup 2019 with former fast bowling great Zaheer Khan being appointed the bowling coach for a period of two years. Former Indian Captain Rahul Dravid has appointed as batting consultant for specific overseas tours.
  
  It will be third stint with the national team for Shastri, who was earlier a Cricket Manager during 2007 tour of Bangladesh and then Team Director from August 2014 to June 2016 during which India reached the semi-finals of 2015 World Cup and World T20 semi-finals in 2016.
  
  Virat Kohli-led Indian cricket team has been without a head coach after Anil Kumble resigned from the post after the ICC? Champions Trophy 2017.
  
• Mithali Raj created Record
  Mithali Raj added yet another feather in her cap. When she scored 34 runs, in the match against Australia, she created history by becoming the leading run-getter in ODIs, going past England player Charlotte Edwards’ record of 5992 ODI runs.
  
• Asian Athletics Championships: Manpreet Kaur wins gold in short put event
  Asian Athletics Championships at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, on the opening day on 6th July, India's Manpreet Kaur won a gold in short put event in women's category. Nayana Gems won a silver in Women's Long Jump. India opened the account with a bronze medal when Vikash Gowda won it in Men's discuss throw.
  
  Ace sprinter Dutee Chand exploited the home advantage to enter into semi finals in 100m women category. Dutee clocked 11.40 seconds in the qualifying round to cover the distance where she stood first. Similarly, Amiya Mallick also qualified for the next round in the 100 meter race.
  
• Harinder Sandhu wins South Australian Open title
  India's Harinder Pal Sandhu has won the South Australian Open squash title. In the final at Adelaide on 8th July, the Indian, a former national champion, defeated Rhys Dowling of the host nation.
