- India clinched series against Australia
India have clinched the ongoing five-match ODI series against Australia by taking an unassailable 3-0 lead. India beat the visitors by 5 wickets in the third ODI at Indore on 24th September. India had won the first and second encounters played at Chennai and Kolkata by convincing margins. - Vaishnavi Jakka Reddy clinches Belgian Junior badminton title
Indian shuttler Vaishnavi Reddy has clinched the women's singles Under-19 title at the Belgian Junior Open badminton tournament. She defeated top seed Vivien Sandorhazi in a three-game final at Herstal, Belgium on 24th September. - FIFA U-17 World Cup: Goa stadium handed over to FIFA
The Nehru Stadium in Fatorda, Goa, was on 24th September handed over to FIFA for the Under-17 Football World Cup, beginning October 6. Local organising committee tournament director Javier Ceppi, who arrived at Margao on 23rd September along with other officials, inspected the stadium and was satisfied.
The stadium will be managed by the FIFA team from now on. With a capacity of 19,000, the stadium is the smallest of all stadiums hosting the Under-17 World Cup.The stadium will play host to European giants Germanny and Asia's formidable side Iran respectively. Joining them will be the West African nation of Guinea and the Central American team of Costa Rica. The stadium will also host two Round of 16 encounters as well as a quarter-final match. - Wrestler Bajrang wins gold in Asian Indoor Games
In Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games, Indian wrestler Bajrang beat Daichi Takatani of Japan in the men's freestyle 65kg final to win the gold. Indians added four medals including gold on the ninth day of the games at Ashgabat in Turkmenistan on 24th September. Two women wrestlers Sheetal Tomar and Navjot Kaur also grabbed a bronze each.
Krishnan Sasikiran won the third bronze in men's standard individual chess. India now stands at 12th place in the medals tally with 6 gold, 7 silver and 11 bronze. - India become world no. 1 in both ODIs and Tests
After winning third One Day International against Australia, in the ongoing one day series, India is the no. 1 spot in the International Cricket Council (ICC) One-Day International (ODI) rankings. This is India’s ninth consecutive ODI win while it is Australia 11ts successive defeat. The three Top three teams in ODI are India, South Africa, and Australia. - ICC's new cricket rules to come into effect on 28th September
Players being sent off for misconduct is all set to become a reality in cricket with the ICC's revamped playing rules, which will be effective in all series starting 28th September or later.
The significant changes also include a restriction on the dimensions of the bat, and changes to the Decision Review System. However, the ongoing India-Australia limited-overs series will continue to be played as per the old rules.
All of these rules will come into effect from the two upcoming Test series -- when South Africa host Bangladesh and Pakistan take on Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates.
Also, in the new the DRS rules a review will now not be lost in case of a decision that remains unchanged, solely as the result of an 'umpire's call'.
For boundary catches, airborne fielders making their first contact with the ball will need to have taken off from within the boundary, otherwise a boundary will be scored.
Besides, a batsman can now be out caught, stumped or run out even if the ball bounces off the helmet worn by a fielder or wicket-keeper. - India to host South Asian boxing Championship in Guwahati
India will be hosting the South Asian boxing Championship for the first time in Guwahati from December 6 to 10. Boxing Federation of India, BFI, after its executive committee meeting on 26th September said, the country will also host the 'India International Open tournament' in New Delhi in the third week of January.
In a release BFI said, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh will participate in the Championship with other SARCC countries.
The India international tournament will also see countries like Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine among other top boxing nations participating. - India wins nine gold medals at 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games
The 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games concluded at Ashgabat in Turkmenistan on 27th September. On the concluding day Indians grabbed four medals, including a gold through tennis player Sumit Nagal, to end at 11th place.
Nagal bagged the men's singles gold medal in the tennis event as he outplayed compatriot Vijay Sundar Prashanth 6-1 6-1 in the all-Indian final. It was the second medal for Prashanth in the tournament, having won a gold in the men's doubles with reigning singles national champion Vishnu Vardhan
In chess, India collected two bronze - in men's blitz team and men's blitz team under-23. The pair of K Sasikiran and Surya Sekhar Ganguly lost to the Vietnam duo of Le Quang Liem and Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son in the semifinals of men's blitz team event to settle for a bronze.
In the men's blitz team under-23, the duo of Diptayan Ghosh and Vaibhav Suri lost to the Iran pair of Alireza Firouzja and Parham Maghsoodloo in the semifinals to be content with the bronze.
With 9 gold, 12 silver and 19 bronze, India finished at 11th position in the Games.Hosts Turkmenistan topped the medals tally with 89 gold, 70 silver and 86 bronze, followed by China and Iran. - PV Sindhu wins Korea Open title
India's P V Sindhu has lifted the women's singles title at the Korea Open Super Series badminton tournament. In the final at Seoul on 17th September, Sindhu defeated Nozomi Okuhara of Japan in three sets. World no. 4 Sindhu had also clinched the 2016 China Super Series Premier and India Super Series.
- One gold, four silver, and three bronze medals for Indian women boxers in Ahmet Comert youth boxing Championships
India have signed off with a rich haul of one gold, four silver, and three bronze medals at the Ahmet Comert Boxing Championships for youth women boxers. In the competitions held in Istanbul, Turkey, India's lone Gold came through Soniya in the 48kg category. She defeated Kazakhstan's Zhazira Urakabeva in her summit clash.
The silver medal winners for India were Niharika Gonella (75kg), Shashi Chopra (57kg),Parveen (54kg), and Ankushita Boro (64kg). All the four lost in their respective final bouts. Tilotama Chanu (60kg), Jyoti Gulia (48kg), Lalita (64kg) and Manisha (69kg) had to be content with bronze medals after losing their respective semifinal bouts. - Virat Kohli maintains top spot in latest ICC rankings of T20 batsmen
India skipper Virat Kohli has maintained his top spot in the latest ICC rankings of T20 batsmen. Kohli leads number-two ranked Aaron Finch of Australia by 39 points, while Evin Lewis of West Indies has grabbed a career-best third position after jumping up a place.
In the bowlers' table, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah has climbed up a place to be at second position, overtaking South Africa's Imran Tahir. The table is headed by Imad Wasim of Pakistan. India's star off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin remains static at 10th position.
In the team rankings, India hold on to the fifth position. The West Indies have toppled England after a 21-run win at Chester-le-Street. The Windies team who were in fourth position with 117 points before the match on 18th September, are now third with 120 points. On the other hand, England have lost four points to slip from second to fourth with 119 points.
In the batsmen's chart, Pakistan's Babar Azam has risen 21 spots to be at career-best sixth position after his player of the series performance helped complete a 2-1 win over the World XI in the recent Independence Cup series at Lahore. - Indian shuttler PV Sindhu is World No 2 in BWF women's singles rankings
Indian shuttler PV Sindhu jumped two places to World No 2 in the latest Badminton World Federation women's singles rankings. Sindhu's climb came on the back of her title triumph at the Korea Open Super Series on 17th September.
This is the second time in her career that Olympics silver medallist has occupied the second spot. She last reached her best ranking following her win at the India Open Super Series back in April, this year. London Olympics bronze winner Saina Nehwal was static at the 12th spot.
Chinese Taipei's Tai Tzu Ying retained her top spot. The reigning Olympic champion Carolina Marin of Spain also remained at fifth while world champion Nozomi Okuhara of Japan moved up one place to eighth.
In the men's singles rankings, K Srikanth remained unchanged at eighth while B Sai Praneeth and H S Prannoy dropped one place each to be at 17th and 19th positions. Ajay Jayaram also lost three places to be at 20th spot. - FIFA Women World Cup France 2019 official slogan, emblem launched

Mercedes' British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton registered his 60th career won at the Singapore Grand Prix. He defeated Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel score and reached the top of the table with 28 points. Daniel Ricciardo won the second place in the race. - Mary Kom to be AIBA representative at IOC athletes' forum
Five-time world champion and Olympic bronze-medallist M C Mary Kom has become the first Indian to be picked as the International Boxing Association's (AIBA) representative for the IOC Athletes' Forum scheduled in November.
She has been invited to attend the 8th International Olympic Committee's (IOC) Athletes' Forum in Lausanne from November 11th to 13th
AIBA has sent an invitation letter to the Boxing Federation of India , in this regard. The event, however, overlaps with the Asian Championship in Vietnam, which is scheduled from November 2 to 12.
If Mary Kom is selected for the tournament after trials later this month, her participation at the IOC event would become uncertain. - India wins 4 medals in 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games
In the 5th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games at Ashgabat, Turkmenistan, India bagged four medals on 22nd September. Sajan Prakash of India finished second with silver medal in the Men's 100 metre butterfly event.
Divya Gurling Shilwant and Pratiksha Chandrakant Parhar bagged a bronze each in women's Alysh classic in 70 kg and 75 kg categories in the Belt Wrestling Discipline
Wrestler Keduovilie Zumu from Nagaland won bronze medal in the 90 kg category of Kazakh Kuresh style belt wrestling.
Meanwhile, Sourav Kothari assured himself of a medal after winning his semifinal contest in men's billiards singles against Thailand's Thawat Sujaritthurakaran 3-0. India are at 11th spot in the medals tally with 5 gold, 7 silver and 7 bronze. - India win 2nd SABA U-16 Championship
India has won 2nd South Asian Basketball, SABA, Under - 16 Championship. India defeated Bhutan by 131-50 in its last league match at Kathmandu on 9th September.
India remained unbeaten in its all four matches and accumulated 8 points. Bangladesh finished second and hosts Nepal third. The championship was played on a round robin league format. India has now qualified for 2017 International Basketball Federation, FIBA, Under-16 Asian Championship to be played in Malaysia later this year. - Los Angeles to host 2028 Olympics
Los Angeles will host the 2028 Olympics. The evaluation commission of International Olympic Committee, IOC gave the formal go ahead to its bid on 11th September. On 12th September, the full IOC will award the 2024 Games to Paris and the 2028 Games to Los Angeles.
Los Angeles had originally bid for 2024, but because of the new date, it had to make changes to its host contract.The evaluation commission said that although details need to be finalised, it is confident LA can host Olympics in 2028. - Sports Ministry announces Rs 50 thousand per month to elite athletes
Sports Ministry has announced 50 thousand rupees per month stipend to the elite athletes preparing for Tokyo Olympic, Asian Games and Common Wealth Games to meet their pocket expenses.
The stipend will be given to 152 elites players from this month. The Olympic Task Force has made recommended in this regard which was accepted by the government.
The announcement was made by Sports Minister Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore. He said the Centre is committed to providing all resources to champions - Rafael Nadal won 2017 US Open title
Rafael Nadal of Spain won the 2017 US Open title in men’s single category. He defeated Kevin Anderson from South Africa.
The other category winners are:- Jean-Julien Rojer (Netherlands) and Horia Tecau won the Men's Double Championship.
- Chan Yung-jan (Chinese Taipei) and Martina Hingis (Switzerland) won Women's Double Championship.
- Martina Hingis (Switzerland) and Jamie Murray (United Kingdom) won the Mixed Doubles Championship.
- India wins One Day International cricket series 5-0 with Srilanka
India has whitewashed host Sri Lanka 5-nil in One Day International cricket series. On 3rd September, in the fifth and final match at Colombo India defeated Sri Lanka by six-wickets. By winning all games, India became the first visiting country to inflict a 5-0 defeat on Sri Lanka. Dhoni creates record: Former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni on 3rd September became the first wicketkeeper in world cricket to effect 100 stumpings in One Day Internationals. Dhoni achieved the feat in his 301st ODI in Colombo on 3rd September when he whipped off the bails to remove Sri Lankan batsman Akila Dananjaya off leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal's bowling.
Dhoni has also taken 281 catches apart from scoring 9,657 runs so far. Dhoni played 90 Tests and 77 T20 Internationals as well. In 90 Tests, Dhoni has taken 256 catches and effected 38 stumpings. In T20 Internationals, Dhoni has taken 43 catches and affected 23 stumpings.- Konsam Ormila Devi bags gold at Commonwealth Youth weightlifting Championship
India's Konsam Ormila Devi bagged a gold medal in 44kg weight category on the opening day of the Commonwealth Youth (boys & girls) weightlifting championships, held at Gold Coast, Australia.
Ormila lifted 57kg in snatch and 76kg in clean and jerk for an overall effort of 133kg, to finish on the top of the podium. With this effort, Ormila has registered her best lift so far. - India on top in latest ICC Test rankings
India continues to be at the top in the latest ICC Test rankings released in Dubai on 7th September. India, which white-washed Sri Lanka 3-0 in the recent away Test series, have 125 points. Australia who are scheduled to tour India from next week to play 5 ODIs and 3 T-20 matches, slipped one rung to fifth after drawing the two-Test series against Bangladesh 1- 1.
Australia is now on 97 points, the same as New Zealand, but are behind on decimal points. South Africa is placed second at 110 points while England are third with 105 points. Bangladesh who gained five points from the recent series against Australia, reached an aggregate of 74 points to remain at ninth. - India bags 5 medals on final day of Commonwealth Youth, Junior and Senior Weightlifting Championships
On the fifth and final day of the Commonwealth Youth, Junior & Senior Weightlifting Championships at Gold Coast, Australia on 9th September, India bagged two yellow metals, one silver and two bronze to wrap up their successful campaign in style with a total haul of 37 medals, including 23 gold.
In the last five days of the Championships, 34 new records were created by the Indians. Pardeep Singh on 9th September qualified for next year's Commonwealth Games with a gold medal. He finished on the top of the podium in the 105 kilogram category after lifting 147 kilograms in snatch and 195 kilograms in clean & jerk for a total of 342 kilograms.
In the process, he also overhauled the national senior record in the snatch event. In the men's junior division 105 kilogram category, Lovepreet Singh finished with a gold medal with a total effort of 325 kilograms while Tejpal Singh Sandhu claimed a bronze. Gurdeep Singh who settled for a bronze medal, also created a new record in the snatch section. In the junior women plus 90 kilogram category, Purnima Pandey clinched a silver. - James Anderson of England takes 500 Test wickets
James Anderson (35-year-old) became the third pacer, sixth bowler overall and first Englishman to take 500 Test wickets when he clean bowled West Indies’ Kraigg Brathwaite for four on Day 2 of the third Test at Lord’s. Windies' pacer Courtney Walsh was the first fast bowler to achieve the feat, followed by Australia's Glenn McGrath.
