  • Sachin Tendulkar on 27th May 2014 was selected as the goodwill ambassador of 35th National Games. National Games are scheduled to be held in Kerala from January-February 2015.The National Games were held every two years.34th National games held in Ranchi, whereas 36th national games will be held in Goa in 2015.
  • Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg of Germany on 25 May 2014 won Monaco Grand Prix of Formula One. This was his second victory of the season. Lewis Hamilton of Britain attained second position. The third place was taken by Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo of Australia. The Monaco Grand Prix is a Formula One motor race held each year in the month of May since 1929. It is widely considered to be one of the most important and prestigious automobile races in the world.
  • Japan won the Thomas Cup 2014 of badminton on 25 May 2014.Japan defeated the Malaysian team 3-2 in the finals held at Siri Fort Complex in New Delhi. This was Japan’s first Thomas Cup. The Thomas Cup is also known to be Badminton Men’s World Team Championships. The Uber Cup was won by China. Uber cup is also to be known to be Women’s Badminton World Team Championships.
  • The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on 1 June 2014 won the seventh Indian Premier League 2014 by defeating Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) by three wickets in the final. Final was played at Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. This is the second title triumph for KKR after 2012. Man of the Match award attained by Manish Pandey. IPL Season 6 winner was Mumbai Indians
  • China won the Uber Cup (ladies World team championship) with a 3-1 triumph over Japan on 24 May, which is held in New Delhi. China won its 13th Ubercup title. Japan finished runner-up for the second time. The Indian women won the bronze medal after it was defeated by Japan 2-3. Saina and Sindhu won the first two singles to put the Indian team 2-0 ahead but they failed to win the third singles and the two doubles match.
    • The Uber Cup is the World Team Championships for Women, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams.
    • The Thomas Cup is the world men's team championship.
  • World No. 1 Rafael Nadal on 11th May 2014 won his 27th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 title at Mutua Madrid Tennis Open final. He won after Kei Nishikori of Japan was forced to withdraw with a back injury when was trailing 2-6, 6-4, 3-0 in the final set. With this win Nadal of Spain became the first player to win four Madrid open tennis titles.
  • Maria Sharapova of Russia on 11th May 2014 won the Mutua Madrid Open women Tennis title. Sharapova defeated the Romanian Simona Halep 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 in the finals. With this win, Sharapova has captured 31st career title. In 2013, Sharapova lost the finals of Madrid to Serena Williams.
  • Manipur has won the 20th Senior National Women’s Football Championships title at the Golaghat Stadium in Assam. Manipur defeated Orissa by 3-1. Bala Devi of Manipur scored two goals and the third was made by Oinam Bembem. Bala Devi was adjudged as the player of the tournament. Manipur had won the Championships in 2010.
  • The Supreme Court of India on 16th May 2014 appointed three-member panel headed by Justice (retd.) Mukul Mudgal to further probe the IPL spot fixing scandal involving N. Srinivasan and 12 others. The Supreme Court bench comprising of Justice AK Patnaik (head of the bench) and Justice Ibrahim Kalifulla asked the panel to submit its report by the end of August 2014 and has posted the matter for further hearing to September 2014.In its directive the court also asked, Sunil Gavaskar and Shivlal Yadav to continue their jobs till further orders. Gavaskar and Yadav were appointed as the interim President of BCCI after Srinivasan stepped down from the post.
  • Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar has been given honorary life membership of the Els Club at Dubai Sports City as he sets out to improve his golfing skills. Tendulkar, who retired from cricket, last November as the most capped player and the leading run-scorer of all-time at international level, received the award from Dubai Sports City Partner Abdul Rahman Falaknaz.
  • Mark Selby of England won the World Snooker Championship 2014 held in Sheffield, England on 6th May 2014. He won the title by defeating the defending champion Ronnie O Sullivan with 18-14 in the final. This is his first World title and he was runner-up in 2007. With this win he was ranked World no. 1 in the Snooker. Mark Selby won cash prize of 300000 pounds. Defending Champion O Sullivan won the World title for five times, this is for the first time he lost in the finals.
  • Virat Kohli was ranked no 1 in ICC list of One Day International (ODI) rankings released in Dubai on 4th May 2014. He remained on the top rank in batsmen list with 881 points. He was followed by the AB de Villiers with 872 points. The other two Indians under top 10 list are Indian captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (6) and Shikhar Dhawan (7). G.J.Bailey (Australia) and H.M.Amla (South Africa) got third and fourth ranks.
