- Carlsen retained title
Magnus Carlsen asserted his supremacy over Viswanathan Anand for the second year in running as the Norwegian retained his World Championship title after defeating the Indian Challenger in the 11th game on 23rd November. The Norwegian world champion closed the 12-game match with a 6.5-4.5 scoreline, courtesy his win in the penultimate game. - Switzerland won maiden cup
Roger Federer gave Switzerland and himself a first Davis Cup title on 23rd November, pounding Richard Gasquet of France. - Bingtao victory
Yan Bingtao won IBSF world snooker championship on 29th November. He defeated Pakistan’s Muhammad Sajjad. Bingatao is Chinese player. In the women’s section, Belgium’s Wendy Jans took her third consecutive title defeating Russia’s Anastasia Nechaeva. - Varun created new record
Uttar Pradesh’s Varun Kakran cleared a height of 1.86 metres to set a new National record in the under-14 boys’ high jump in the Jio junior National athletics championship at IGMC stadium on 29th November. - Saina and Srikanth create history
Indian badminton top shuttlers Saina Nehwal and K Srikanth clinched the women's and men's singles title of the $700,000 China Open Super Series Premier, respectively on 16th November.
Saina defeated Akane Yamaguchi of Japan, Srikanth defeated Lin Dan of Japan. This is the first time any Indian male shuttler has won a Super Series Premier event ever since the Super Series and Premier tournaments were introduced. - Maana, Madhu emerge the best
Backstroke specialists P.S. Madhu (Services) and Maana Patel (Gujarat) , who dominated the 68th edition of senior National aquatic championship by winning three gold each with two records to boot, were declared the best swimmers of the tournament after the final day of competitions. - India won 5-0 against Sri Lanka
India won series against Sri Lanka with 5-0. In the fifth one day Virat Kohli made unbeaten 139. Srilankan player Angelo Mathews also made century with this both Kohli and Mathews have become the only two men to cross 1,000 ODI runs in 2014.

Man of the Series: Virat Kohli - Maana, Saurabh and Madhu swim to new marks
India’s Maana Patel of Gujarat, bettered her own mark in the women’s 100m backstroke at the 68th senior National aquatic championship on 12th November.The opening day saw two more records in the men’s section with Saurabh Sangvekar of Maharashtra and Services’ P.S. Madhu eclipsing the previous bests while winning the 400m freestyle and 100m backstroke events respectively. - 150 years of Eden Gardens
The Cricket Association of Bengal on 11th November, released postage stamps to commemorate 150 years of the Eden Gardens, considered the home of cricket in this part of the world, as legends of the game nostalgically recalled their fond memories of the iconic ground.
The first day covers of the stamps, released under the India Post My Stamp venture, were brought out at a star-studded function on the historic ground, which hosted the World Cup final in 1987. Postage stamps were also released to mark the contribution of CAB chief Jagmohan Dalmiya, former head of the world cricket governing body ICC and its India affiliate BCCI.

Rohit Sharma scored 264 off 173 balls against Sri Lanka at the Eden Gardens. In his marathon innings he created five records. India played fourth One day International in this series at Eden gardens- Rohit Sharma's 264 is the highest score by a batsman in ODI cricket. He surpassed Virender Sehwag's record of 219 scored against West Indies in 2011. The highest score in ODI history is by Belinda Clarke who scored 228 in the Women's World Cup against Denmark in 1997.
- Rohit Sharma became the first batsman to score two double centuries in ODI cricket. He had scored his first double ton against Australia in November 2013 in Bengaluru.
- Rohit Sharma hit 33 fours in the innings, surpassing the previous record held by Sachin Tendulkar who had hit 25 boundaries.
- Rohit Sharma scored 186 runs in boundaries (33 fours and 9 sixes) in his record-breaking knock which is a world record.
- The highest score by an Indian in List A cricket before today was 248 by Shikhar Dhawan against South Africa A in Pretoria in 2013.
- Sajan Prakash creates new National record
Sajan Prakash of Railways sank the men’s 1500m freestyle record on the second day of 68th senior National aquatic championship at the Subhas Sarobar swimming complex on 13th November.
Prakash, creating the lone record with his brilliant effort even as Sandeep Sejwal and Virdhawal Khade won their races - 50m breaststroke and 50m freestyle - to maintain their supremacy in the format. Owner of a host of National records Richa Mishra returned from a two-year ban for doping violation keeping her dominance almost unmitigated. - Kohli named ambassador
The International Cricket Council (ICC) on 13th November announced the star studded appointment of its ambassadors for next year's Cricket World Cup and India's Virat Kohli is a part of the five member group. Accompanying Kohli would be Australian fast-bowler Mitchell Johnson, New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum, Sri Lanka's former captain Kumar Sangakkara and Australia's Shane Watson.
The ICC Ambassadors would add their support and considerable profile in the build-up to and during the 2015 Cricket World Cup; including involvement in the board's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme and event promotions. The ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 would start on 14 February and end on 29 March. - Johnson named ICC cricketer of the year
Mitchell Johnson as the Australian fast bowler was on 14th November declared ICC Cricketer of the Year as well as the ICC Test cricketer of the Year. He won the coveted Cricketer of the Year award for the second time in his career while he is only third Australian after Ricky Ponting (2006) and Michael Clarke (2013) to win the Test Cricketer of the Year award.
During the voting period between 26 August 2013 and 17 September 2014, Johnson claimed 59 Test wickets at an average of 15.23, with best bowling figures of seven for 40 runs against England in Adelaide last December. In ODIs, Johnson claimed 21 wickets in 16 games.
While Johnson previously won this trophy in 2009, Ponting lifted it back—to—back in 2006 and 2007. Other winners include Rahul Dravid (2004), Jacques Kallis and Andrew Flintoff (2005), Shivnarine Chanderpaul (2008), Sachin Tendulkar (2010), Jonathan Trott (2011), Kumar Sangakkara (2012) and Michael Clarke (2013). - Bryan brothers capture fourth Paris title
Twin brothers Mike and Bob Bryan won their fourth doubles' title in Paris and 32nd Masters Trophy on 2nd November as they defeated Poland's Marcin Matkowski and Austrian Juergen Melzer - Djokovic victory
World number one Novak Djokovic won his 600th ATP match on 2nd November as he defeated Canadian seventh seed Milos Raonic to win the Paris Masters for the second straight year. - Mudgal Panel submits report
Justice Mukul Mudgal committee, which investigated the allegations against ousted Indian cricket board chief N Srinivasan and 12 others including some cricketers in the IPL spot fixing case, on 3rd November submitted its final report in a sealed cover to the Supreme Court.Srinivasan, who was asked by the apex court to step down as preisdent of BCCI following allegations against him in March, is presently the chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC). An apex court bench headed by Justice TS Thakur, before which senior counsel Raju Ramachandran submitted the report, will examine the report on the next date of hearing and pass an order for next course of action against the accused persons. - Manavaditya bags gold
Manavaditya Singh Rathore won a three-way tie to bag the junior trap gold in the fourth Asian shotgun championship in Al Ain, UAE, on 4th November. - Dhoni named captain of ICC ‘ODI team of the year’
Mahendra Singh Dhoni was named captain of ICC’ ‘ODI Team of the Year’ but none of the Indian players found berth in governing body’s ‘Test Team of the Year’ led by Sri Lankan Angelo Mathews. The ICC cricket committee headed by former India captain Anil Kumble on 7th November announced the two teams consisting of 12 players each.
While 12-member ODI team for performance during 2014 had Dhoni as captain along with his Indian team deputy Virat Kohli and pacer Mohammed Shami in the XI, opener Rohit Sharma has been named as the 12th man. The 12-member ‘ODI team’ comprises of four Indian players, three South African players, two Australians, one Pakistani, one Sri Lankan.
This is the seventh year in a row that Dhoni has made it to the ICC’s ‘ODI’ side while Dale Steyn made it to the ‘Test’ for the seventh year in succession. The ‘Test team’ has two Australians, three New Zealanders, two from England, three Sri Lankans and two from South Africa.
