  • India's middle-distance runnerGhamanda Ram won silver in 800m in the opening leg of the Asian Grand Prix meet in the Chinese city of Jiaxiang on 22 May 2011. Sajeesh Joseph, the second Indian in the race, finished fifth in 1:51.62. India's second medal came in women's discus throw where Seema Antil clinched bronze with a throw of 49.77m. 
  • Defending world champion Sebastian Vettel raced ahead of Lewis Hamilton to win the Spanish Grand Prix. It was Vettel's 13th career win and he now has 118 points to lead Hamilton who is on 77 points by 41 points. Vettel representing Red Bull won four of this season's five races. In this race he needed all his skill and nerve to edge out his McLaren rival by just six tenths of a second after 66 laps of the Catalunya circuit near Barcelona. 
  • The Serbian tennis star Novak Djokovic defeated Rafael Nadal 6-4 6-4 in the Rome Masters final. With the victory at the Rome masters stretched his unbeaten start to the 2011 season to 37 matches. The second-ranked Djokovic won seven titles already this year, and beaten Nadal in all four finals they’ve played this year.
  • Asian Games bronze medalist India’s Virdhawal Khade bagged eight medals, including three gold medals at the 54th Malaysia open swimming championship in May 2011. Khade won gold medals in the 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle events and two silver medals in the 50m and 100m butterfly events at the National Aquatics Centre in Bukit Jalil in Kuala Lumpur. Ashwin Menon won a bronze in men's 200m backstroke with a timing of 2:10.86s. 
  • Five-time World champion M.C.Mary Kom (48kg) beat Asian champion Kim Myong Sim of North Korea 4-3 in the final of the Asian Cup Women's Boxing tournament in Haikou, China. 
  • Star Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal was defeated by world number three Xin Wang of China in the finals to finish runner-up in the Malaysian Open Grand Prix Gold Badminton tournament in Kuala Lumpur. 
  • Novak Djokovic won the third edition of Serbia Open on 1 May 2011. The ATP World Tour 250 event top seed, Djokovic captured his fifth title in 2011, and 23rd in his career when he defeated Spaniard Feliciano Lopez 7-6(4), 6-2. The victory marked his second victory at his hometown tournament. Djokovic had also won the inaugural Serbia Open in 2009.Novak won every tournament he’s entered in 2011: the Australian Open, Dubai, Indian Wells, Miami and now Belgrade.
