  • Kim betters world marks
    North Korea’s Kim-Un-Guk broke three world records in 62kg class. Kim shattered a 12 year old record by lifting 154kg in the snatch, and followed it with a clean and jerk of 174kg to set a new combined record of 328kg. Then with his final attempt he successfully lifted 178kg to raise the combined mark to 332kg, 5kg above the record he set in winning Olympic gold in 2012.
  • Trio wins bronze in 25m pistol
    The Indian trio of Rahi Sarnobat, Anisa Sayyed and Heena Sidhu won the women’s 25m pistol team bronze in the 17th Asian Games at the Ongnyeon Shooting Range on 22nd September. The women finished behind South Korea and China and Sarnobat could manage only a seventh place in the individual event. Ayonika Paul, the Commonwealth Games silver medalist, also could finish only seventh in the 10m rifle event.
  • Kuala Lumpur to host World Cricket League
    International Cricket Council (ICC) on 23rd September 2014 announced that ICC World Cricket League (WCL) Division 3 will be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The World Cricket League Division 3 will be held from 23 to 30 October 2014.

    The ICC World Cricket League Division three 2014, forms part of the ICC World Cricket League and qualification for the World Cup 2019. Bermuda, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Uganda and the USA are the six teams competing in World Cricket League. Uganda was supposed to host the six-team competition from 26 October 2 November 2014 due to security reasons the event has been shifted from Uganda to the Malaysia. In 2013, World Cricket League Division 3 was held in Bermuda, UK. The six teams participated were Bermuda, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Uganda and the USA are the six teams competing.
  • National Academies for Athletics & Golf in Thiruvananthapuram
    Union Ministry of Sports inaugurated National Academy for Athletics and National Golf Academy at Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala. The National Academy for Athletics will give training for sub junior, junior and senior athletes selected across the country by the expert coaches including foreign ones.

    Initially 20 children selected in the age group of 8 to 14 from various schools in Kerala for National Gold Academy. This will be the first batch of Golfers in the Academy.

    In India, golf has become an Olympic discipline and India will participate in next Olympics in Rio in Brazil from 2016 onwards.
  • Sachin and Steve for 2014 Bradman Honouree
    Cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and Steve Waugh of Australia were selected as Bradman Honouree 2014. It was announced by The Bradman Foundation on 22 September 2014. They will be honored at the Gala Dinner of the Bradman Foundation on 29 October 2014 in Sydney. The Bradman Foundation, a non profitable organization was established in 1987 with the support of Sir Donald Bradman. It was established to promote cricket as a valuable cultural and sporting force within the community.
  • Srinivas and Rashmi Triumph
    Reigning National champion K. Srinivas and Rashmi Kumari won the men’s and women’s singles titles respectively in the fourth World Cup carrom championship in Maldives. The Indian combination of P. Jayashree and Rashmi defeated another Indian pair Kajol and Kavitha Somanchi in the women’s doubles final.
  • Asian games started
    The 2014 Asian Games, officially known as the XVII Asiad were started on 19th September. They will last till 19th October. The number of events are 439 events, and total number of disciplines are 36. The games are being held in Incheon south Korea.

    All about Asian games: 
    • The Asian Games, also known as Asiad, is a Pancontinental multi-sport event held every four years among athletes from all over Asia.
    • The Games were regulated by the Asian Games Federation (AGF) from the first Games in New Delhi, until the 1978 Games.
    • Since the 1982 Games they have been organized by the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA), after the breakup of the Asian Games Federation.
    • The Games are recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and are described as the second largest multi-sport event after the Olympic Games.
    • In its history, nine nations have hosted the Asian Games. Forty-six nations have participated in the Games, including Israel, which was excluded from the Games after their last participation in 1974.
    • The last Games was held in Guangzhou, China from 12 November to 27 November 2010. The present games are conducting in Incheon, South Korea
    • Games held in Delhi in 1951, from 4th to 11th March, and second time, games were held in Delhi in 1982
    • India is one of the only seven countries that have competed in all the editions of the Asian Games. The other six are Indonesia, Japan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Thailand. India has won at least one gold medal at every Asian Games, and always ranked within the top 10 nations of the medal table except in the 1990 Asian Games.

  • US Open winners
    Doubles- Bryan twins
    • American twins Bob and Mike Bryan became the first doubles pair to win 100 titles together by winning the US Open men's doubles final on 7th September. The world number one duo, defeated Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez of Spain once in each set to seal in New York. It is their fifth US Open title and 16th Grand Slam title together. 
    Women singles- Serena won
    • Serena Williams won her 18th Grand Slam title defeating Woznaiacki on 8th September, it is her sixth US open crown. 
    Men’s singles- Marin Cilic
    • Croatia's Marin Cilic won his first Grand Slam title with a comprehensive straight-sets win over Kei Nishikori of Japan at the US Open. 
    Mixed- doubles winners-
    • Sania Mirza and Bruno Soares 
    Harika wins bronze
    D. Harika took the bronze at the last leg of the 2013-14 FIDE women’s Grand Prix chess at Sharjah on 6th September. The fourth-seeded Indian defeated Batchimeg Tuvshintugs of Mongolia, the 11th seed who had been having a dream run, to take her tally to 6.5 points from 11 rounds.
  • ‘Pink panthers’ is champion
    Jaipur Pink Panthers pulled off victory over U Mumba to emerge champion of the inaugural STAR ProKabaddi League on 31st August.
  • Carolina, Chen clinch world titles
    China’s Chen Long and Spain’s Carolina Marin won to clinch the men’s and women’s singles titles of the World Badminton Championships on 31st August.
  • SC refuses to reinstate Srinivasan
    The Supreme Court on 1st September rejected N. Srinivasan's plea for reinstatement as BCCI President saying he cannot be allowed to take up the charge till he gets a clean chit from Justice Mudgal Committee which is probing him and 12 players in IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal.

    Expressing displeasure over slow speed of probe, the apex court asked the panel to complete it's investigation within two months and also allowed it to file interim report against Srinivasan or any other office bearer who are under its scrutiny.

    A bench of justice TS Thakur and justice FM Ibrahim Kalifulla turned down Srinivasan's plea that he should be allowed to discharge his function as the AGM is expected to take place at the end of this month and his signature is needed for clearing the annual account of the board.

    Justice Mudgal committee, which is conducting probe against Srinivasan and 12 prominent players in the scandal, had on August 29 filed its interim report in a sealed cover before the Supreme Court. The apex court had on May 16 given the task to conduct probe against 69-year-old Srinivasan and 12 players to Justice Mudgal panel and asked it to file its report by end of August. It had rejected BCCI's proposal to conduct the probe through its own panel.

    The Mudgal committee had earlier investigated the scandal and submitted in a sealed envelope its initial report in which names of Srinivasan and 12 cricketers were mentioned.
  • Pact between BCCI and MRF pace foundation
    BCCI and MRF pace foundation made an agreement for five years. Pace bowlers will be given training under the agreement
  • Sania and Bruno Soares won mixed doubles
    Sania Mirza clinched her third mixed doubles Grand Slam title as she and her partner Bruno Soares overcame a few anxious moments in the Match Tie break to win the US Open, 5th September. It was first time that Sania and Soares were playing together as a pair.

    Sania's previous titles came with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi. They won Australian Open in 2009 and French Open in 2012.
  • India won series against England
    India won the 5-match One-Day International (ODI) series played against England by 3-1. The first match of the series was washed out due to rain without a ball being bowled. However, India won the second, third and fourth matches of the series but suffered a defeat by the hands of England in the fifth and the final match.
